Hot New Wedding and Reception Trends
Similar to the fashion industry, wedding experts around the country track which wedding and reception trends are hot and those that have lost popularity. Many say that the traditional garter toss, disposable cameras on each table, and having DJs at the reception are currently out of favor with most couples. However, DJs remain very popular in the Southwest. Here are some general guidelines as to the trends that are gaining popularity today: · Brides and grooms are honoring their family and heritage by using ethnic customs in the ceremony. · Groom?s cakes are making a big comeback and are decorated to reflect the groom?s hobbies, sports teams or profession. · Coffee and expresso bars are featured at the reception. · Instead of limousines, couples are using luxury SUVs, vintage, classic, and sports cars to transport them from the ceremony to the reception. · Couples are registering for a honeymoon fund. · Specialty drinks and food stations such as organic juice bars, martini bars and sushi bars are featured at the reception. · Couples are requesting that leftover food from the reception be given to a local food bank. · Different sizes and shapes of tables as well as chair covers make the reception feel more ?cozy.? · Spotlighting the dance floor, wedding cake, or head table gives these areas special emphasis. · CDs are given to the guests as wedding favors. This may include a special thank you to the guests as well as a favorite song of the bride and groom.
One of the most popular trends today is for the bride and groom to write or email their guests months in advance with a ?save-the-date? card. This is mailed before the invitation and gives each guest plenty of time to prepare for the wedding date and make necessary arrangements.
